Pine Cone and Pom Poms Tree
Using a beautiful pine cone, a white marker to simulate snow, and a multitude of colorful mini-pom poms, children will create an adorable little Christmas tree. This tactile and fun activity allows them to make an original decoration full of cheer!
Start by 'snowing' the scales of the pine cone with a marker. Once the pine cone is placed on its wooden base, the challenge begins: armed with a precision tweezers, children will enjoy gently picking and placing the colorful pom poms between each scale. Here’s a unique tree ready to decorate the home!
Why do we love this activity?
- A great exercise for fine motor skills: using tweezers to place the pom poms requires focus and precision, turning crafting into a genuine Montessori-style playful workshop.
- A joyful visual outcome thanks to the contrast of the snow effect and the colorful pom poms.
- A natural and sustainable decoration: transforming a simple natural element into a decorative object gives an authentic result.
How to make this craft step-by-step:
Materials
To make a miniature Christmas tree, you will need:
- a large pine cone (10 to 15 cm)
- a wooden bracelet
- wooden stars
- a white paint marker
- small glittery pom-poms
- precision tweezers
- a glue gun
Step 1
Paint the tips of the pine cone scales with a white paint marker to create a snowy effect.
Step 2
Once the paint is dry, place the pine cone on the wooden bracelet that will serve as a stable base.
Note: you can also attach the pine cone to its base with a glue gun.
Step 3
Glue a wooden star to the top of the pine cone using the glue gun.
Step 4
To decorate the tree, simply place colorful pom-poms between the scales of the pine cone (no need to glue them).
Tip: You can use precision tweezers to handle the pom-poms and enhance children's motor skills. The activity will be even more fun!

It's a shame that a glue gun is required. It would have been better to have another system so that the children could stick the little pom poms themselves, as it's not easy with the tweezers.
