Make a bat like no other this Halloween: the Bat Queen!
With this tutorial, your kids will discover the magic of symmetrical painting. The idea is simple: place a few drops of gouache on one wing, fold the paper, smooth it out and... surprise! When they unfold it, the colours have transferred to the other wing, creating a beautiful mirror pattern.
This is a fun sensory activity that helps your little ones experiment with colours, handle paint and learn about symmetry while having fun. Try different colours and textures with our paint collection!

How to make this craft step-by-step:
Materials
To make a Bat Queen, you will need:
- a free printable bat template
- a sheet of black paper
- a thick sheet of kraft paper
- cotton buds
- gouache paint in various colours
- a glitter glue pen
- letter stickers like Scrabble tiles
- adhesive rhinestones
- 18 mm googly eyes
- a white acrylic marker
- glue
- a pair of scissors
Step 1
Print our bat template and fold a sheet of black paper in half.
Cut out the template and trace its shape along the fold.
Step 2
Cut out the silhouette while keeping the paper folded, then unfold to reveal a bat with perfectly symmetrical wings!
Step 3
Use cotton buds to place drops of gouache in different colours on one wing of the bat.
Step 4
Carefully fold the bat in half to line up the wings.
Gently smooth the paper with your hands to transfer the paint onto the other wing.
Step 5
Unfold to reveal the colourful mirror patterns!
Leave to dry for 10 to 15 minutes.
Step 6
Create the face using 18 mm googly eyes and draw the mouth with a white acrylic marker.
Add some adhesive rhinestones on top of the head to form a pretty crown.
Step 7
Stick the bat onto a sheet of kraft paper.
Leave enough space around it to add a message (see step 9).
Step 8
Use a glitter glue pen to trace the edges and veins of the wings for sparkling details.
Note: glitter glue takes about 12 hours to dry completely.
Step 9
Add stickers to write your chosen message, here "HAPPY HALLOWEEN".
And there you have it, the Bat Queen is ready to reign!
